PROVINCETOWN — A Provincetown-based real estate developer is looking to build workforce housing to alleviate the town’s crushing crisis in that area.

Shankpainter Associates has proposed construction of 28 dormitory-style units, five studio apartments, nine one-bedroom apartments and one three-bedroom apartment at 207 Route 6. The project is designed to provide housing to year-round and seasonal workers, company vice president Patrick Patricksaid.

“The genesis for it is our need for employee housing,” he said. The Patrick family also owns the Marine Specialties store on Commercial Street, and the business has lost employees who cannot find anywhere to live.
