Great Music on Sundays @5: Queer Voices Through the Centuries
    Date: 2024-08-11     Time: 5 PM : 0 minutes

Great Music on Sundays @5 is Provincetown’s longest-running concert series of music of our world. Since the inaugural 1999 season, more than 350 concerts with hundreds of performers have provided music without borders for thousands of concertgoers.

Come hear music from the 18th century to today composed by queer people about queer life! From the Baroque to musical theater, from British folk songs to French melodies, this recital explores depictions of love, joy and remembrance from LGBTQ+ composers. Tenor Andrew Bearden Brown, pianist Frederick Jodry and flutist Eric Maul share works that queer people have created to celebrate the lives they have built for themselves and their community, including repertoire such as Francis Poulenc’s ecstatic Flute Sonata and Jake Heggie’s contemporary song cycle composed in homage to Poulenc. Featuring music by G. F. Handel, Benjamin Britten and more, this recital offers a wide-ranging glimpse at what it means to connect with our community and the world.
