Residents in three Cape Cod towns can now track online how their tax dollars are being spent, providing enhanced public insight and transparency into the municipal budgeting process.
Falmouth, Provincetown and Yarmouth on Tuesday became the first local communities to go live with OpenGov, a cloud-based technology that improves access to public information to increase government accountability.
The financial data — which can include department budgets and expenditures, revenues versus expenses, employee earnings, cash fund balances and historical budget information — can be accessed from each of the town’s websites.
The Cape Cod Times has all of the details for those looking for more information on OpenGov. Do you think this trend will continue among additional Cape towns?
