For his ninth consecutive season as producing artistic director at Provincetown’s Art House, Mark Cortale is announcing a special music and comedy lineup for what will be a milestone for the famed venue. At the top of the marquee once again will be his internationally acclaimed Broadway @ series, which the dynamic duo of Cortale and his creative partner, Sirius XM radio star Seth Rudetsky, first launched in Ptown in 2011 and now makes its home in more than a dozen major venues worldwide.
The milestone event this summer season will celebrate is that it will be the last season in its longtime twin-theater venue. Plans have been approved for a new state-of-the-art venue named The Provincetown Performing Arts Center and 1620 Brewhouse to be built at the location, which will become the new home for Cortale’s internationally renowned productions and is slated to open in time for the 2020 season. It will house 167 seats, including new balcony-level seating, a separate theater entrance and lobby, modern sound, lighting and projection capabilities, as well as expanded year-round restaurant seating and Provincetown’s first brewery.
Summer 2019’s Town Hall series, produced by Cortale at the town’s largest venue, will welcome back RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 6 winner Bianca Del Rio with her new show Its Jester Joke on July 15. She will be followed by mega-watt duo Debra Messing, the Emmy Award-winning star of Will & Grace, and Kathy Najimy, star of Hocus Pocus and the Sister Act films, who will perform together on August 4, with Brian Nash at the piano. RuPaul’s Drag Race season 8 winner Bob The Drag Queen returns by popular demand with her show Crazy Black Lady on August 11. The Town Hall series will be raising funds this year for Sandy Hook Promise.

Gavin Creel received two Tony nominations for Claude in HAIR and Jimmy in THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE. He was also seen in the Broadway Revival of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES, The Goodman Theatre/Kennedy Center production of BOUNCE, as well as HAIR and MARY POPPINS in London.
Creel is also a respected advocate for the LGBT community. In the fall of 2009, he was honored as one of OUT Magazine’s OUT 100 for his work as co-founder of Broadway Impact, a grassroots organization of the theatre community fighting for marriage equality. Through his advocacy, Creel has gained national attention performing and speaking at events and rallies including the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) national dinner alongside Lady Gaga and keynote speaker President Obama; The Cyndi Lauper True Colors Cabaret series featuring Jason Mraz, Rufus Wainwright, and Sara Bareilles; and on the Capitol lawn at the 2009 National Equality March.

Debra Messing is best known for her role on NBC’s Emmy Award-winning and Golden Globe-nominated comedy series Will & Grace. Kathy Najimy is known for her memorable performances in over 25 films including Sister Act, Hocus Pocus, RatRace, WALL-E and more. She is proud to have been named Ms. Magazine WOMAN OF THE YEAR and the NYC Lily Awards Actor/Activist of the year. Najmy currently can be seen in the Netflix hit film: Dumplin and the new untitled Sia Furler project. Michael Cerveris is an American actor, singer, and guitarist. He has performed in many stage musicals and plays, including several Stephen Sondheim musicals: Assassins, Sweeney Todd, Road Show, and Passion. In 2004, Cerveris won the Tony Award as Best Featured Actor in a Musical for Assassins as John Wilkes Booth. In 2015, he won his second Tony Award as Best Actor in a Musical for Fun Home as Bruce Bechdel.

Bob The Drag Queen is the “former fucking reigning” queen from season eight of the Emmy award-winning reality show, RuPaul’s Drag Race. He recently starred in Tony Kushner’s ANGELS IN AMERICA with Stephen Spinella at Berkley Rep. Bob has been a well-known New York City comedian and drag performer for over eight years. Bob has been touring the world since her crowning moment in 2016. Prior to appearing on RuPauls Drag Race, she won the title of Best New Comedian in 2014 at some other Broadway adjacent neighborhood comedy club.

Founded by Quinn Cox and John Cameron Mitchell, Afterglow renews the centennial artistic bond between Greenwich Village and Provincetown, enriching the cultural heritage of this great Cape Cod hamlet, making it a post-seasonal destination for international artists and audiences alike.

Mark Cortale co-produced the critically acclaimed new Off-Broadway musical Midnight At The Never Get by Mark Sonnenblick at The York Theatre this past October which recently received 3 Lucille Lortel Award nominations including Best Musical. He produced Deconstructing Patti on Broadway last September at the Nederlander Theatre with Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS starring Patti LuPone and Seth Rudetsky. He created the Broadway @ concert series in 2011 at The Art House in Provincetown where he serves as Producing Artistic Director. The series, featuring creative partner Seth Rudetsky as music director and host, had its eighth season this past summer and guest artists over the years have included Patti LuPone, Audra McDonald, Sutton Foster, Megan Mullally, Christine Ebersole, and Jessie Mueller. The Broadway @ series also premiered in 2013 in New Orleans, in Australia (Sydney & Melbourne) with Megan Mullally and in London’s West End with Patti LuPone at the Leicester Square Theater. The series has since traveled to cities that include Chicago @ The Steppenwolf, Beverly Hills @ The Wallis, Fort Lauderdale @ The Parker Playhouse, San Francisco @ The Herbst Theater and Scottsdale @ Scottsdale Center for the Arts.
