PROVINCETOWN — The 31st annual Provincetown Swim for Life this year also marks the 25th anniversary of the creation of the Provincetown Community Compact, which was founded by artist Jay Critchley to serve as the nonprofit sponsor of the swim. The Compact has evolved over the years into an umbrella organization currently sheltering 18 eclectic artistic and charitable projects.

The Swim for Life first took place in 1988 as a fundraiser for the relief of those suffering from AIDS, which was devastating the community.
