The Provincetown Film Society is seeking a CEO/Executive Director. The ideal candidate will have strong fundraising and management experience and have sensitivity to the role that film and authenticity in storytelling plays in reducing social disparities, enhancing gender equity and reshaping the representation of people of color, queer folks and all those who have been traditionally excluded from media. The position requires strong organizational leadership to maximize existing strategies and develop new directions. Together with the Board of Directors, the CEO will create the overall vision for the organization and position PFS as a leader in the Provincetown Arts Community.
The Provincetown Film Society (PFS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to furthering the founding mission of the Provincetown Art Colony – to provide a welcoming, nurturing and inspiring environment for boundless and authentic creative exploration – in film.
From the time it was founded in 1998, PFS has been committed to serving its communities who are often outside of the mainstream, in the margins, or otherwise underserved – but who have a voice critical to the evolution of artistic expression. It has also been dedicated to the celebration of Provincetown – a shining example of diversity and inclusion and an American treasure nestled amongst spectacular National Seashore beaches.
PFS operates three divisions that the CEO will oversee 1) The annual Provincetown International Film Festival, 2) The Waters Edge Art House Cinema and 3) The Gabrielle Hanna Film Institute. PFS provides year-round programming to promote the cultural and economic vitality of Provincetown, to support aspiring and established filmmakers, connecting them with curious and engaged audiences globally, and to endorse gender, racial, and sexual diversity in international entertainment media.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
Executive Management – Work with a diverse group of staff, contractors and volunteers of the three divisions to oversee all aspects of the film society including fundraising, operations, programming and marketing. Ensure sound financial planning and fiscal management. Demonstrate ability to work with a governing board. Foster positive, productive relationships and teamwork among staff, contractors, board and volunteers.
Fundraising – Drive all contributed income activities which include major donor cultivation, corporate philanthropy, sponsorships, annual fundraising events, capital campaign, appeals and membership drives, direct mail solicitations and oversee grant writing. Utilize social media effectively for marketing and membership growth.
Business Development and Public Relations – Create revenue generating partnerships with for-profit and non-profit organizations, including local government. Maintain and strengthen existing relationships with our sponsors and supporters. Represent and expand the public face of the organization in the local community and the entertainment industry.
Board Development – Work with the Board of Directors to help cultivate, recruit, develop, maintain, and support an active Board of Directors.
Seeking candidates with:
- Demonstrated leadership and management skills
- Demonstrated successful fundraising experience
- Experience in developing and growing an organization through membership
- Persuasive and passionate communication and people skills
- Able to be highly collaborative with senior staff
- Arts organization experience preferred
- Sensitivity and commitment to gender equity and racial and sexual diversity
