It’s Tuesday, and you know what that means: it’s when you can tune in to WOMR and hear Kathy Tarr, Paula Sperry, Carol Courneen, Ira Wood, and more of the wonderful people who make this station what it is. The Tuesday after Thanksgiving has also become a time to think of your favorite nonprofit organizations and what they mean to you.

In a world that has accelerated to a head-spinning pace, you can count on community radio to be your refuge. We take the old adage “act local” to heart, featuring the voices of your friends and neighbors as they play the music they love and discuss the issues important to our area. We have no ulterior motives; our sincerity is our signature. If that sort of thing is important to you, we hope you’ll consider making WOMR a part of your year-end giving plans.

Here are a few different programs and opportunities for giving you may find attractive:

  • CAPITAL CAMPAIGN: WOMR is in the home stretch of an effort to raise the money necessary to rebuild its broadcast studios. Analog is charming, but the modern era has become undeniably digital. The new equipment will allow for new capabilities, easier maintenance and better integration. This means better sound quality for you, the listener. It also ensures the stability of broadcasts well into the future. After 12 months of concerted effort, about two-thirds of the money has been raised. Everyone’s welcome to our celebration of the anticipated success of the campaign on April 14 at the Schoolhouse.
  • VEHICLE DONATION: Thanks to its partners at CARS, WOMR has had great success in raising money by accepting donations of vehicles from patrons. Whether they run or not, you can donate your car, truck, motorcycle or boat to the station. Contractors will come take the vehicle off your hands and handle all the paperwork, selling the vehicle at auction turning to rewards over to community radio!
  • VINTAGE VINYL: Music is the station’s stock in trade, and for the last few years its passion has been manifest in bringing old records back to life by finding them a new home. You can donate your old collection to the station, get credit for your donation to a nonprofit, and know that they’ll find someone to love them as much as you did. If you’re a buyer, browse the collection to see if they’ve got just the thing you’ve been looking for. Call Matty in the office at 508-487-2619 to make arrangements to donate your records.
  • NET METERING CREDITS: Perhaps you’re one of the many folks who have installed solar panels at your home or business and harvest more watts than you need. Energy is one of WOMR’s biggest budget items and it can use the energy you don’t need. Eversource has made it possible for you to donate your surplus power to your favorite nonprofit. That might even be your local community radio station! Get more details here, or call us in the office to find out more.

You can also continue to pledge your support to your favorite community radio show, be it music or spoken word, and even receive a nice thank-you gift from the station.

ptownie is proud to partner with WOMR and to promote Cape Cod’s only community radio station. This #givingTuesday, please consider making it your station, too!
