PROVINCETOWN — The Select Board made several changes that would affect town roads and parking at its annual traffic hearing, agreeing to close a section of Commercial Street to vehicles on weekend nights in the summer and increasing rates for parking permits.

The six-hour marathon meeting Monday ran through 27 proposals.

The new parking permit rules were proposed to try to generate more revenue for the town by gearing the MacMillan Pier lot toward visitors.

“The current Parking Permit structure is unwieldy, reduces potential revenue generation, and hampers efficient resident-friendly enforcement,” town staff wrote in the proposal.
