SASStainability: Housing Hope. Sustaining Futures
Summer of Sass, Inc., a Provincetown-based nonprofit serving LGBTQ+ young adults, is proud to announce the purchase of 265 Commercial Street, marking a transformative milestone in the organization’s continued growth and long-term sustainability.
The acquisition will allow Summer of Sass to expand housing and services for LGBTQ+ young adults while launching a revenue-generating social enterprise designed to strengthen the organization’s financial future. By leasing the property’s commercial space, Summer of Sass will establish a dependable income stream to help offset operating costs, support participant housing, and reduce reliance on annual fundraising.
This innovative approach is part of the organization’s broader vision of SASStainability—building a future where mission-driven service is supported by smart, stable, and values-aligned revenue.
“This acquisition is not just an expansion of space—it is an expansion of possibility,” said Kristen Becker, Founder and Executive Director of Summer of Sass. “The commercial space gives us an opportunity to generate revenue that directly supports our mission. That means more stability, more capacity, and more freedom to focus on the young people we serve.”
For nearly a decade, Summer of Sass has welcomed LGBTQ+ young adults to Provincetown from communities where affirming spaces, queer mentorship, and opportunities for independence may be limited. Participants receive housing, employment support, mentorship, community connections, and the opportunity to experience Provincetown as a place of belonging and possibility.
The purchase of 265 Commercial Street strengthens that mission in two important ways. It expands the organization’s capacity to serve more participants and grow its programming while creating a long-term revenue-producing asset that moves Summer of Sass toward greater financial resilience.
“This is the moment when community support matters more than ever,” Becker said. “The acquisition gives us the opportunity to build long-term SASStainability, but we need help now to outfit the commercial space and prepare it for tenants. Once it’s operational, that space will generate reliable revenue to support housing, programming, and the future of Summer of Sass.”
The investment also reflects Summer of Sass’s commitment to responsible stewardship. By purchasing property that both serves participants and generates sustainable income, the organization is creating a nonprofit model rooted in community, place, and long-term planning.
Commercial rental income will not replace philanthropy, but it will provide a stronger financial foundation. Donor support will remain essential for participant travel, staffing, program expansion, building improvements, and emergency assistance. The additional earned revenue, however, will provide greater financial stability and ensure charitable gifts have an even greater impact.
