    Room 68 Provincetown
    July 24, 2023

Room 68, Provincetown’s go-to spot for contemporary art and design, is celebrating its 10th year on Commercial Street this summer. Brent Resfeld and Eric Portnoy, who co-curate the gallery, offer a sophisticated selection of art, furniture, objects, and books sure to tempt just about everyone. And, happily, with a range that suits most every wallet.

Some of the artists at Room 68 have been with Resfeld since his early gallery days in Jamaica Plain (the “Room 68” moniker was shorthand for a gallery space at 68 South Street in JP). Always on the lookout for young and emerging artists to add to their roster, Resfeld and Portnoy now make the rounds at MassArt, the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, and art and design fairs around the country.

Room 68 also fosters up-and-coming talent with residencies (usually in the spring, when finding housing is at least plausible), which allow artists to immerse themselves in their work and in Provincetown for a month or six weeks.

With 10 years under its belt, the gallery has built a loyal following, and there’s a concerted effort to continually refresh the offerings over the course of the summer so that repeat visitors will always have something new to discover. One of Room 68’s loyal fans coined a description that Resfeld thinks perfectly sums up the gallery – “a playground for the soul and imagination.”

    Worth Fighting For Book Cover
Like many other progressives, I’m finding it difficult these days to be optimistic, much less at peace, about the state of the world and of the country I live in. Everywhere I look, cruelty is on display. (And what is it, anyway, about cruelty that it seems...
