    Masters of Confucquary

    June 16, 2025

The 2025 season opens with the Masters of Confucquary, which, once again, pairs Painter Steve Bowersock and Sculptor/painter Jeanne’ McCartin, and Joe Lupiani, artists known for their unordinary insights, visions and storytelling.

Described by one viewer as “a walkabout outside convention,” Masters of ConFuquary brings together three artists whose work challenges expectation and dives deep into storytelling, symbolism, and emotional terrain.

Artist Steve Bowersock, 30 x 30, Oil on Canvas

Bowersock’s paintings explore psychological states and inner conflict through surreal, dream-like imagery. Several new works feature his iconic Floating Lady series—figures suspended in meaning and metaphor, representing themes from Mother Earth to the struggle between containment and freedom.

Artist, Jeanne McCartin, Post Story Series; Red, 18 x 17 x 9, Mixed Media

McCartin presents her Secular Oratory sculptural paintings—layered, symbolic, and narrative-rich. Drawing from figures like Pandora and the Fox Sisters, her works examine delusion, hope, illusion, and identity, functioning like visual tarot cards that unfold over time.

    Artist Joe Jupiani, Splated Hades, 12 x 12 x 8, Sculpted wood

Lupiani’s woodcarvings introduce anthropomorphic creatures with haunting presence: rabbits in coats, children with raven heads, mythic hybrids frozen in moments of quiet drama. His latest figures, including a young Hades walking Cerberus, bring classical mythology into contemporary emotional space.

Together, these three distinct visions form a cohesive and compelling exhibition—one where the surreal, the sacred, the absurd, and the profoundly human meet.

Masters of ConFuquary invites you to step outside the expected and into a world where myth, metaphor, and meaning collide on June 20, with a reception from 7 to 9 p.m., and will run through July 1 at Bowersock Gallery.
