Outer Cape Dance Festival Celebrates Movement, Community, and Creativity

This summer, dance takes center stage in a new way with the debut of the Outer Cape Dance Festival, a celebration of movement, creativity, and community at Wellfleet Preservation Hall. Produced by year-round North Truro resident Ellynne Skove, the festival brings together some of the Cape’s most innovative dance artists alongside acclaimed guest performers for an inspiring series of performances, workshops, and interactive experiences throughout July and August.

Designed to welcome audiences of all ages and experience levels, the festival transforms Wellfleet Preservation Hall into a vibrant performance space, extending beyond the theater to its gardens, outdoor grounds, stairways, and unexpected corners. Visitors can expect immersive experiences where dance unfolds in surprising places throughout the property.

Among the featured artists is Brewster’s Movimento Project, presenting two evenings of imaginative choreography featuring site-specific performances, including dancing inside sculptural boxes and around a specially designed pool installation in the garden. New Dance Alliance, with roots in Dennis Port and New York City, joins the lineup alongside Harwich choreographer Rebecca Burrill, whose workshop and outdoor performance near Uncle Tim’s Bridge explore the powerful relationship between movement and nature.

The festival also welcomes internationally recognized performer Elena Lev, celebrated for her work with Cirque du Soleil. She will lead a family-friendly hula hoop workshop and present a dazzling performance that highlights her unique blend of circus artistry and contemporary dance.

Another festival highlight features renowned choreographer Karen Bernard, who will lead a workshop exploring how social dance helps reconnect people with their bodies as they age. Bernard will also perform a deeply personal work inspired by her journey overcoming severe rheumatism through dance at age 77.

Rounding out the festival is an unforgettable collaboration between Provincetown movement facilitator Patricia van Djikhusen and Outer Cape band Woof Woof Meow. Together they will present a rare live-music ecstatic dance experience, inviting participants to move freely in an uplifting celebration of rhythm, wellness, and connection.

The inaugural Outer Cape Dance Festival showcases the remarkable talent flourishing across the region while creating opportunities for audiences to experience dance as performance, participation, and joyful community expression.
