Provincetown Theater holds Open Auditions for Charles Dickens’s holiday classic, A Christmas Carol!

    September 3, 2025

From 4-7PM on Saturday, Sept 13 and Sunday, Sept 14, the Provincetown Theater in Provincetown, MA will hold open auditions for non-union performers for their final production of their 2025 season, Doris Baizley’s adaptation of Charles Dickens’s holiday classic, A Christmas Carol. Director David Drake seeks a cast of 12 performers, ranging in age from teenagers to seniors for this seminal yuletide tale of redemption and rejuvenation through the power of community.

Along with a wide age-range for the cast, the theater is seeking folks with circus skills (tumbling, juggling, in particular), puppetry skills, and performers who play musical instruments. The Provincetown Theater enthusiastically encourages BIPOC performers, as well as trans and non-binary performers to audition.

Set during the Great Depression, Doris Baizley’s adaptation finds the story of Ebenezer Scrooge being told by a troupe of traveling vaudeville players. As the rag-tag company arrives in town, they discover that the actors playing Scrooge and Tiny Tim have abandoned the tour — but the show must go on! The prop person eagerly volunteers for the role of Tiny Tim while the cynical stage manager must be forcibly drafted to play the old miser. With the make-do casting in place, the troupe jumps into telling the tale of how the three Spirits of Christmas work their magic to rekindle the heart of Scrooge, as well as the old stage manager.

All actors play multiple roles. Along with Scrooge and Tiny Tim, a dozen performers are sought to play such roles as the Cratchits, Mr. Fezziwig, handsome Nephew Fred, lovely maiden Belle, the greedy scavengers, the stern schoolmaster, as well as the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future.
